Hot Yoga and other hot classes have become increasingly popular over the last few years. Those who are devoted to the practice say hot classes have a variety of benefits.
While they can be a challenge for some, you’ll be sure to work up a sweat and feel satisfied and rejuvenated after a class.
We offer hot yoga, hot Pilates and hot barre at Body Refinery Gym with trained yoga professionals who can ensure your safety while participating. Participants are welcome to lay on the ground when he or she is feeling a little too hot or can step out of the room at any time. There are no rules here. We are focused on providing you with a beneficial and safe workout.
Hot yoga systematically works the entire body, toning muscles, promoting weight loss, reducing stress and increasing overall vitality.
1. INCREASED FLEXIBILITY
You might become a little surprised at how flexible you become during one of our hot yoga classes. The heat will allow you to safely reach new level of personal flexibility in beginner’s postures. This is therapeutic for your body (and feels great after being sore from working so hard in the gym!).
2. GOOD SOURCE OF CARDIO
Believe it or not, hot yoga is also a great cardio workout. Your heart can work the same way doing yoga in a heated room as it does when running a mile – and you never leave your mat! A 60-minute class can burn up to 400 calories. Stretching and compressing your internal organs while doing various poses can also stimulate metabolism so you are burning calories quicker after the class.
3. STRENGTHEN YOUR BODY
Many participants find that they are quite sore after trying hot yoga for the first time. Why? You’re using your body as your own gym! Yoga is low impact and uses muscles you didn’t even know you had. A key focus is spine strength, which is key to a long and healthy life. Hot yoga systematically works the entire body, toning muscles and promoting overall weight loss.
4. DETOX YOUR BODY
That’s right – get ready to sweat! The stretching postures themselves are detoxifying for your muscles, organs and glands but the sweating even further detoxifies your body. Our heated rooms get up to 100-105 degrees with 50-80% humidity. You will leave a little drenched and very detoxified.
5. IMPROVE FOCUS
The routine of postures and breathing exercises help you advance your practice of yoga through repetition. As you advance, you gain tremendous focus and determination. The ability to focus carries over to your daily life where you are able to focus on the task at hand. The breathing exercises can also be translated to everyday life where you can relax and reduce stress at an easier rate.
6. HEAL YOUR BODY
Yoga is known as a healing therapy. With regular practice, these postures can help to heal old injuries and prevent them in the future. This is especially true for back pain. Hot yoga is also known to reduce the symptoms of conditions and illnesses including diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, depression, arthritis and obesity. Even professional athletes do yoga to help focus and prevent injury.
“Basketball is an endurance sport, and you have to learn to control your breath; that’s the essence of yoga. So, I consciously began using yoga techniques in my practice and playing. I think yoga helped reduce the number and severity of injuries I suffered. As a preventative medicine, it’s unequaled.” – Kareem Abdul–Jabbar
7. IMPROVE YOUR LIFE
According to Patanjail’s Yoga Sutra, yoga slows down the mental loops of frustration, regret, anger, fear and desire that can cause stress. By quieting your mind, you’ll be likely to live longer and healthier. If you practice regularly with an intention of self-examination and betterment, you can access a different side of yourself and increase your self-esteem.
Yoga can also benefit your relationships and help you develop friendliness, compassion and greater equanimity. Yoga’s philosophy places emphasis on avoiding harm to others, telling the truth and taking only what you need. All of these aspects can help build your inner strength and improve your lifestyle.
